Home Stagers are becoming more and more prevalent in the marketplace. But who declares a person to be a professional ane competent in that area?
In reality, there is NO neutral and independent body which gives accreditations in the field (at least not yet). The concept of Staging originated in California over 20 years ago. Since then, several training programs for Stagers came into existence and some of them give an "Accreditation" to their graduates at the end of the training. But anyone who paid for the course gets to graduate...
The important criteria is the level of comfort and trust you establish with a Staging Consultant of your choice. You will decide whether the person you select is a Professional by asking lots of questions. Selling your house is a stressful event in your life and you need to feel at ease with the attitude and the working methods of the Home Stagers. For example:
- does he/she understand your concerns, timeframe and budget?
- is he/she is answering your questions clearly and truthfully?
- is he/she willing to work with what you already have to provide creative solutions with minimal investment?
- study his/her Website to determine the profile and personality of the home staging consultant.
- what other projects has he/she worked on?
- ask to see pictures of Before and After and judge for yourself
- don't decide on "free evaluation" or the price alone - consider all the factors and trust your gut feeling.
